Somalia,s prime minister hamza abdi barre on Thursday departed for an official state visit to Iraq after receiving an invitation from his Iraqi counterpart Mohamed shia al sudani,his office said in a statement on X.
It comes weeks after somali national security advisor Hussein moalim arrived in Baghdad for talks with Iraqi security officials,in what somai authortities say was meant to emulate Iraq,s experience in counter insurgency and mobilization of vigilantes in the fight against islamist militants.
Barre and his Iraqi counterpart will discuss efforts aimed at initiating cooperation on a number of forefronts,including security,his media office added.
